So...How is the new year's resolution going?
Sigh. Life is hard. Change is harder.
Most of us need deadlines because that's how we execute creative work. If only we had deadlines for developing new creative practices.
There's a reason you're here...
Either you’re not producing like you want to...or you are and it’s exhausting.
You know (or suspect) that there are better ways to do things. You might even know what those ways are. And you’ll get to them—with the next book when you’re not so rushed. Next month after the in-laws leave. The month after when you’ve recovered from this bout of whatever is draining you (it’s the fucking world, darling).
Resolutions fail, and it's not entirely your fault. If the only person who you’re accountable to is you, then it’s easy to prioritize family, friends, the day job, and the house because those pressures are in your face 24/7. If you prioritize social media, your body is putting the pressure on too. Scrolling to disassociate is a sign that the way you operate isn't sustainable.
Escaping frustration/guilt/grief might require help. It might require some external pressure. It might require a swearing Australian coach who can be gentle if that's what's honestly required, but is more likely to kick your arse.
“WTF Janice?”
There’s a reason my group coaching clients love and fear the index cards with their name up the top and their monthly commitment below. It makes them take action (yay), and it makes them justify inaction (yikes).
If you have a desire to do things differently in 2026 and are even slightly masochistic, coaching with me might be for you.
Dancing in my seat, screwing up my face, snorting with you as we discuss the bonkers things only creatives will understand might not look like a research-backed approach to development. But it is. I’m a certified Clifton Strengths coach currently training with leading experts in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy.
More than just a pretty whipcracker
This sale is about accountability. Short monthly or bi-monthly check-ins can diagnose and troubleshoot most reasons why you're not writing/painting/building an audience. They can keep you on track. The year-long nature of the two packages also lets us dip into thornier projects, like:
- Discovering your true values if you’ve absorbed the wider industry’s beliefs.
- Finding acceptance when change is impossible (I loathe this, but fighting the unwinnable gets you nowhere).
- Managing the emotions that spring from a creative practice and business, including fear, imposter syndrome, publishing trauma, anger and grief.
- Developing sustainable routines and systems.
- Climbing out of the burnout pit if that’s where life has dropped you.
- Making smart business decisions in order to achieve the greatest return on money and time investment.
- Managing people. The moment you pay someone to help run a business, you’ll need to communicate a vision, develop your team, and make them accountable for their performance.
- Brainstorming or nutting out story problems. It’s my favorite thing to do. We play with ideas and then I don’t have to execute them.
- Making your ADHD work for you (because holy God it makes a difference when you have the right scaffolding).
February - March is when many give up on the changes they felt so good about, so I'm going to leave this here until the end of the first quarter and 2026 can begin in April for some of us.
If both of these options are too much commitment, my usual pricing is:
- $240 AUD per 75-min session
- $160AUD per 50-min session
- $75 per 25-min session (for clients who’ve had at least one session with me in the past, or have attended a couple of my BFA group coaching calls

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
Samara has provided invaluable coaching and inspiration to me over the last months. Her structured approach allowed me to focus in on my core strengths and gain new perspectives on my career opportunities. She is an exceptional listener and understood where my energy is best used, as well as helping me understand what challenges I need to be aware of. Without hesitation, I’d recommend Samara and hope that more professionals get to enjoy her coaching program.
Receving my strengths report was like clicking in pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. It gave a clear picture of my preferences for work, socialising and strategising. I could see why I sailed through certain situations, tasks and relationships while others were more challenging. Samara has helped me to make the most of my top strengths and ways to manage weaker areas to be more productive, balanced and purposeful. By understanding myself better, it's changed the way I approach writing, career and relationships.
She has helped me understand myself and my Strengths, and with that, be kinder to myself about traits I’d always thought I needed to change or suppress. Instead, Samara guided me on how to get the best out of my top Strengths and to work with them instead of against them.
